Tukua – announcing our second round
We are proud of the outcomes from the first Tukua round last year, which saw a total of $485,000 disbursed to hapū, marae, and a range of Ngāpuhi affiliated organisations.
Among the wide variety of kaupapa that the funding supported, there were three kapa haka groups that went to Te Matatini, four marae working bees, and seven māra kai projects that worked to support whānau with healthy accessible kai. The funding also supported sixteen hapū to strengthen their governance and capability, and many more kaupapa across Te Taitokerau. See the full breakdown of funding outcomes for the first round here.
We were happy to hear that whānau generally support the fund and that they found the process easy to use. We also heard that not all hapū were aware of the fund, so the approach has been expanded this year to try and reach as many hapū as possible.
And so, we are happy to announce the opening of the second round of Tukua funding for 2023/24.
Applications are open from Tuesday 28 November 2023 to Friday 23 February 2024.
Our thinking behind Tukua
In designing Tukua, the key aim has been to ensure disbursements are made available to support the needs and aspirations of Ngāpuhi hapū and whānau. Through ongoing engagement with hapū over the past two years, we’ve heard about the immediate needs facing whānau across the rohe, and about the assistance needed to maintain the cultural strength across ngā hapū o Ngāpuhi.
As your needs change over time, we intend to engage and hear those needs. Tukua will evolve over the years to ensure it is reflecting the changing needs and aspirations of hapū and whānau, as we continue to hear your feedback around how the pūtea should be used going forward.
The second round will look to follow on from the successful first round in making it simple and flexible in its design and broad in its reach.
How to apply
Applications will be considered for any activity, objective or purpose that supports:
· capacity and capability building; or
· social or cultural development.
For example, in the category of capacity and capability building, your marae may need some administrative assistance. Or, under social and cultural development, your marae may need some financial support to host a kura reo.
We’re looking for applications from any hapū, marae or rōpū (organisation) that has a clear and close affiliation to Ngāpuhi. All you’ll need to do is to describe your affiliation in the application form.
For the second round of Tukua funding, we have upwards of $600,000 available. We are looking for applications of up to $10,000 (incl GST) to ensure that the pūtea is spread to as many whānau as possible. We welcome any applications that fit this criterion. So, please apply whānau!
